Astier de Villatte Saint Jacques Dish

The Astier de Villatte Saint Jacques Dish is our kind of finishing touch. This delicate trinket dish is inspired by the scallop shells found along the coast of Galicia, near the tomb of Saint James (Jacques to the French). In days of old, religious pilgrims to this historic site would bring home a scallop shell as proof that they completed their journey, leading the shell to become a symbol of the saint himself. Astier’s team of skilled ceramicists handcrafted this vessel in the brand’s historic Paris workshop using locally-sourced black clay and handcarved plaster molds — a slow-paced, traditional method straight from the Middle Ages that gives each piece its own unique character. Once formed into shape, it’s coated with the Astier’s signature milky white glaze, which lets hints of that natural clay color peek through for a perfectly imperfect feel. A gorgeous catchall for jewelry on the nightstand, we also love our Saint Jacques Dish as a petite dessert or appetizer plate on a chic, summery dinner table.
