The table is set for eight, the candles are lit, and the cloth underneath it all is doing the quiet work. Linen, ironed once, laid down flat. Nobody comments on a tablecloth and everybody notices one.

Le Jacquard Français wove this at Gérardmer in the Vosges. Jacquard damask, so the interlocking link pattern reads on both faces, matte one way and lit the other. The design comes out of the private townhouses of Paris. 100% linen, Masters of Linen certified, 69 x 69 in, in Boiseries, a muted brown. Seats six to eight.
