The table is laid before anyone arrives. Blue and white, the way a porcelain bowl is blue and white, carp moving under the peonies. Each napkin is a small framed scene.

From Le Jacquard Français, woven at Gérardmer in the Vosges. Jacquard damask, so the garden reads on both faces of the cloth. 100% cotton, 20 x 20 in, in a deep blue called Lapis.
